On October 18th, at an event hosted by Somali Prime Minister H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre. H.E. Fei Shengchao, Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, elaborated on the key points made by Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping at the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation for Somali Prime Minister, ministers and officials from various ministries as well as representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions in Somalia.

Ambassador Fei said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping. At the opening ceremony of the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech, during which he emphasized 3 pieces of wisdom drawn from the past 10 years' practices. First, humankind is a community with a shared future. China can only do well when the world is doing well. When China does well, the world will get even better. Second, win-win cooperation is the sure way to success in launching major initiatives that benefit all. Helping others is also helping oneself. Third, the Silk Road spirit of peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning and mutual benefit is the most important source of strength for BRI cooperation. The pioneers of the ancient silk routes won their place in history not as conquerors with warships, guns, horses or swords. Rather, they are remembered as friendly emissaries leading camel caravans and sailing ships loaded with goods.

Ambassador Fei further pointed out that more than 600 years ago, Chinese navigator Zheng He arrived in Somalia on a sailing ship along the maritime silk road, sowing the seeds of friendship for our two peoples. Coming a long way to today, Somalia joined the BRI in 2018. Our two countries are making strides hand in hand in pursuit of better lives for our people, and China will continue to unswervingly support the peaceful reconstruction of Somalia and keep committed to win-win cooperation and development for all.
