Good afternoon!

Welcome to the Mid-Autumn Festival Movie Reception of the Chinese Embassy in Somalia. First of all, I would like to thank the Somali Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth, the Somalia-China Friendship Association, our Somali friends and international partners for your support and attendance.   

Last September, we successfully held the Somali chapter of the "Tiangong Dialogue", the very first Q&A between Chinese taikonauts in the space station and teenagers from Somalia and other African nations. Somali boys and girls were also invited to watch the Chinese science fiction movie Wandering Earth I. This year, we held the Somali Chapter of the “My Dream” Painting Competition for African Youth. The painting of a dove for peace drawn by a six-year-old Somali boy, Kawkib Mahamud, won the first prize. His painting was launched into space and exhibited in China’s space station, making new history in space in the historical friendship between our two nations. Today, we'll hopefully open another new page in this friendship by introducing a new Chinese science fiction movie Wandering Earth II.

Wandering Earth II is the prequel to the movie we showed last year. I hope this is not too much a movie spoiler. The movie tells the story of what had been going on before the "Wandering Earth" project started. The sun is about to run out of energy, the world is in panic facing a life or death challenge for all nations. In order to save the earth, people from around the world have united to overcome enormous and never ending difficulties to successfully launch the "Wandering Earth" plan, bringing our common home Earth with us to "wander" in space for a new livable galaxy.

Wandering Earth II tells the story of building a community with a shared future for mankind. It tells how nations across the world, in face of a life or death challenge for humans, put aside differences, rise to the occasion together, turn the tide and make a world of difference. Today's real world is faced with multiple real crises, and human beings are faced with multiple real challenges in the course of development. We have no better option than joining hands to brave the storm together. In this sense, Wandering Earth II is not only a science fiction movie, but also a reflection on how humanity can respond to common crises and build a better future.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

This year marks the tenth anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s proposal of building a community with a shared future for mankind. President Xi Jinping pointed out: “A community with a shared future for mankind, as the term suggests, means that the future of each and every nation and country is interlocked. We are in the same boat, and we should stick together, share weal and woe, endeavor to build this planet of ours into a harmonious big family, and turn people’s longing for a better life into reality.”

Wandering Earth II celebrates not only individual heroes and their sacrifices when the occasion arises, but also the collective commitment and actions in seeking common ground while reserving differences and pooling together the efforts and wisdom of everybody. This movie’s box office success has shown it echoes well with the hearts and minds of the Chinese people in building a community with a shared future for mankind and creating a brighter future. Facing global challenges, China will achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese modernization, and work with all nations in the world, contributing to such a community with a shared future for mankind, so that everyone will be better off tomorrow.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Tomorrow will be the Mid-Autumn Festival, a traditional festival for the Chinese to appreciate the full moon and enjoy family reunion. That is to say, under the full moon of the harvest season, people eat moon cakes and enjoy the time with their family and friends. Today, we are befittingly gathering here to taste moon cakes, watch a movie, and celebrate the festival together. I wish the people of China and Somalia and around the world good health, a bumper harvest and happy reunion ! Happy National Day to my motherland, China and fellow Chinese once again.
